Genelle Guzman-McMillan, the last person pulled alive from the World Trade Center rubble following the September 11, 2001 attacks, has recalled the mysterious encounter that gave her hope while she remained trapped.
Guzman-McMillan was working on the 64th floor of the North Tower when the attack occurred. After the building collapsed, she spent approximately 27 hours beneath the rubble with serious injuries.
Believing she might die, she began praying and asking God for a miracle. She said she then heard a man identify himself as Paul before taking her hand and assuring her that she would be all right.
Rescue workers eventually found and pulled her from the debris, but Guzman-McMillan said she was never able to locate the mysterious man afterward.
“We never found Paul,” she said. “So we’ve come to the conclusion that Paul truly was my angel.”
She has continued to describe her survival as a gift from God and a turning point that strengthened her Christian faith.
