The President-General of the Charismatic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas, has alleged that unnamed individuals are sponsoring b@nditry, k!dnapping and t£rrorism to discredit President Bola Tinubu and frustrate his administration.
Kawas made the allegation during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief while defending the conference’s endorsement of Tinubu for a second term in 2027.
He dismissed claims that the endorsement was financially motivated, insisting that the bishops received no money for supporting the President.
“Today, this endorsement has not given us any one naira. No one naira has been given to us,” he said.
Kawas further claimed that Nigeria’s insecurity was being exploited to damage Tinubu’s reputation. He compared the situation to former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, alleging that similar efforts were made to portray Jonathan negatively.
However, the archbishop did not publicly identify those he accused, and his allegation has not been independently confirmed.
