Chinese Christian lawyer Ruth Wang has left China with her family after facing mounting pressure connected to her legal work defending leaders and members of Beijing’s Zion Church.
Wang, a partner at VDoor Law Firm, was part of a legal team representing pastors and church members following a major crackdown on Zion Church in October 2025.
According to Wang, Chinese judicial authorities later instructed lawyers at her firm to stop representing cases connected to Zion Church and leave the firm.
She also said authorities demanded that the firm dissolve or face being shut down.
While on vacation in Japan with her husband and two young children, Wang received a call from Chinese authorities asking her to return for an in-person meeting.
She decided not to return to China.
The family later traveled to Taiwan, where authorities have provided temporary humanitarian accommodation while Wang explores options for resettlement in another country.
Facing an uncertain future, Wang turned to Scripture for encouragement.
She reflected on the story of Ruth, who arrived in a foreign land and eventually received help through Boaz.
“I also believe that God will give me such a person,” Wang said.
Wang is currently exploring possibilities including relocation to the United States, Canada or another country where her family can safely rebuild their lives.
