WWE legend Shawn Michaels has spoken openly about the dramatic change that took place in his life after becoming a born-again Christian.
During the height of his wrestling career, Michaels had developed a reputation for partying, drug use and difficult behaviour outside the ring. He later said a painful moment involving his young son helped convince him that his lifestyle had to change.
Michaels began attending church and eventually accepted Jesus Christ. Describing what changed in his life, he once put it simply:
“The change was that Jesus Christ came into my life.”
When he returned to WWE in 2002, people who had known him before noticed a significant difference. Michaels later said that from that point onward, wrestling remained his job, but his faith and family became much bigger priorities in his life.
His Christian faith also became visible during his wrestling career, including biblical references in his attire and his well-known kneeling prayer gesture.
From one of wrestling’s most controversial personalities to openly speaking about Jesus, Michaels has described his story as one of faith, family and redemption.
