Former football star Dani Alves has spoken passionately about what he now describes as a greater purpose beyond everything he achieved on the pitch.
Reflecting on his trophies, status in football and family life, Alves said he did not come simply to make an appearance.
“With all that I did in football, with all that I won… I came here to spread the fire of the Holy Spirit in the heart of this nation,” he said.
Alves stressed that he does not believe it is his job to change people himself.
“It is He who convinces of sin, not me,” he said, referring to the Holy Spirit.
According to Alves, his responsibility is simply to share God’s Word, while transformation belongs to God.
The former Barcelona and Brazil star has increasingly used public appearances to speak about his Christian faith and what he describes as a new direction for his life.
For Alves, the trophies may tell the story of his football career, but he says his focus now is on something greater: making Christ known.
