British actress Letitia Wright, widely known for her role as Shuri in Marvel’s Black Panther films, has opened up about the importance of her Christian faith, revealing that she believes her relationship with Jesus Christ helped her survive some of the most difficult periods of her life.
The actress explained that she turned to God in her early twenties, at a time when her acting career was beginning to gain momentum but her personal life felt increasingly empty and overwhelming.
Despite her growing success in the entertainment industry, Wright said her faith became an important source of strength and stability.
Speaking in an interview with The Independent, she explained that her decision to publicly discuss Jesus comes from her personal experiences rather than a desire to impress others.
“I’m sharing my truth because I probably wouldn’t be alive right now if it wasn’t for Jesus, I probably wouldn’t have been able to cope,” she said.
The actress also reflected on how her faith helped her navigate painful experiences, including the grief of losing her Black Panther co-star Chadwick Boseman, who died in 2020.
According to Wright, her Christian beliefs have played a significant role in helping her cope with life’s challenges.
She further revealed that some people have advised her to stop speaking publicly about Jesus.
However, she has continued to express her faith openly, explaining that her experiences have made it difficult for her to remain silent about what she believes God has done in her life.
“I don’t know how people navigate without God. Life is kind of sticky out there,” she stated.
For Wright, her Christian faith is not simply a private religious identity but something she credits with helping her navigate difficult circumstances, personal struggles and the pressures of her career.
Her testimony highlights the personal significance of faith in her life, even as she continues to work in an entertainment industry where religious beliefs can sometimes attract public discussion.
