Former Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has shared a personal testimony about his commitment to tithing, revealing that he began giving 10 per cent of his income after receiving his first football salary of ₦15,000 in 2005.
Speaking during a livestream conversation with Nigerian footballer Rasheedat Ajibade, Ighalo said he was introduced to the principle of tithing by his pastor when he was 16 and made a personal decision to remain consistent with it.
According to him, maintaining that commitment became more challenging as his football career grew and his earnings increased, particularly during his time in Saudi Arabia.
Despite that, Ighalo said he chose not to abandon the practice simply because the figures had become larger.
“I have not missed my tithe since 2005.”
He explained that his responsibility, in his view, is to give faithfully, while whoever receives the money remains accountable to God for how it is used.
Ighalo also testified that God has never failed him, adding that during difficult moments he remembers his giving, offerings and acts of generosity as part of his walk of faith.
His comments have since renewed conversations around tithing, financial stewardship and personal conviction among Christians.
