Pastor Femi Lazarus has cautioned women against allowing the pressure to get married push them into  relationships that could limit their growth, purpose or potential.

During a recent teaching, Lazarus recalled an experience from secondary school involving a female classmate who was academically outstanding. He said he once worked hard to keep up with her performance until a teacher made a comment suggesting that attention from boys could eventually distract her.

Lazarus used the experience to illustrate what he believes can happen when talented and promising women enter relationships that do not support their growth.

According to him, some women are strong in prayer, education, career and personal development, but can become limited after entering the wrong marriage.

He said:

“There are people that would have become more till they said, ‘Yes, I do.’”

Lazarus argued that while destructive influences may seek to completely take a man out, women can sometimes be “neutralised” through relationships that suppress their potential.

He concluded with a prayer and warning to women who have invested years in developing themselves:

“Having invested so much in prayer, study, fasting and building your career, may the pressure of marriage not make you marry a fool.”
