Pastor Poju Oyemade has warned singles against making marriage decisions solely from present circumstances or rigid checklists.
Using examples of a woman who cannot cook and a man who temporarily has no job, he argued that a person’s current condition may not reveal what their future will become.
“That somebody can say, ‘I can’t cook,’ and you miss God,” he said.
Oyemade stressed that practical considerations matter, but said believers should also seek discernment and not automatically reject someone because they fail one expectation at a particular moment.
He added that advice from seminars or other people should not replace personal conviction.
His central message was that wisdom in choosing a spouse should consider character, direction and discernment, not only what a person presently has or lacks.
