Reverend Christie Bature has shared her perspective on the biblical responsibility of men to provide for their families, arguing that the responsibility remains even when a wife earns more than her husband.
Speaking on the question of whether Scripture specifically requires men to be financial providers, Bature pointed to biblical passages about providing for one’s household and to Adam’s responsibility in the Garden of Eden.
“God is our Father and He provides, so we can’t run away from that,” she said.
According to Bature, a woman may contribute significantly to the household and may even earn more, but that does not remove what she sees as the husband’s responsibility to contribute meaningfully and provide.
She also argued that when a man is not “pulling his weight,” it can create tension within the marriage.
“Provide, provide, provide,” she concluded.
