As Christians, who have been transformed by the renewal of our minds (Romans 12:2), it is essential that we see things differently and focus on better, wholesome ways to participate in this season of love.
Here are three great ways to show love on Valentine’s Day.
1. Pray for your loved ones: This year, remember to show gratitude to God. Thank Him for your family, friends and amazing people you know. You can also call them to let them know how much they mean to you.
2. Do charity for the less privileged: The Bible encourages us to show love to everyone, especially the poor and needy. Deuteronomy 15:11 says, “There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land.”Valentine’s day provides the perfect opportunity to do this. However, remember that to do with a cheerful heart. 2 Corinthians 9:7 tells us that, “Each one should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not out of regret orcompulsion. For God loves a cheerful giver.”
3. Have a love feast: Many years ago, Christians had love feasts. The Evangelical Dictionary of Theology says that the ‘church observed the practice of meeting together for a common meal before partaking of the Lord’s Supper (1 Cor. 11:17-34).’ This Valentine’s day, surprise your loved ones, colleagues, neighbours or even strangers with a love feast.
