GOSPEL news: FG Reaffirms Commitment to Partnership With Catholic Church for National Growth and Peace

The Federal Government of Nigeria has renewed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Catholic Church, describing the Church as a vital partner in promoting national development, unity, and social stability.

This assurance was conveyed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, during a goodwill address at the First Plenary Meeting of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria held in Abuja on Sunday.

Speaking at the gathering, Akume described the meeting as an important time of spiritual reflection and guidance not only for the Church but also for the broader Nigerian society. He expressed gratitude to the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria for the invitation and acknowledged the longstanding role of the Catholic Church in shaping the nation’s moral compass and contributing meaningfully to social development.

According to him, the pastoral letters and communiqués issued by Catholic bishops consistently serve as a moral guide for the nation. He noted that their messages often call on leaders to embrace transparency, accountability, and servant leadership, stressing that such guidance stems from Gospel principles rather than partisan interests.

In closing, the SGF commended the bishops for their steadfast leadership and commitment to faith and nation-building. He expressed optimism that the outcomes of the plenary sessions would not only strengthen evangelisation and pastoral work but also foster unity and contribute positively to Nigeria’s peace and progress.
