Pastor and missionary Paul Washer has challenged Christians to examine how much of their daily lives are shaped by Scripture compared with the many other influences competing for their attention.
Washer said many believers spend only a few minutes each day renewing their minds through God’s Word while spending most of their waking hours surrounded by other messages.
“You’re spending less than a few minutes every day renewing your mind in the Word of God, and yet you’re living 16 hours in your day and your mind is being bombarded with everything worldly,” he said.
In another teaching, Washer emphasized that people are continually influenced by their environment, including work, school, entertainment and the ideas of those around them.
“You are moldable,” he said, warning believers not to underestimate how deeply repeated influences can shape their thinking.
His message is not simply about counting devotional minutes.
It is about intentionally allowing Scripture, prayer and the knowledge of God to shape the mind more deeply than the competing voices of the culture.
Romans 12:2 says:
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.”
