American singer and Grammy Award winner Tori Kelly has spoken about the importance of finding personal identity in Jesus Christ rather than seeking acceptance through social media or the opinions of others.

The singer, who rose to prominence through YouTube performances and her appearance on American Idol, has consistently acknowledged the role of her christian faith in both her personal life and music career.

In 2018, Kelly collaborated with renowned gospel musician Kirk Franklin to release her gospel album, Hiding Place, a project that marked a significant moment in her musical journey.

The album earned her two awards at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards in February 2019.

She won Best Gospel Album for Hiding Place and Best Gospel Performance/Song for Never Alone, her collaboration with Kirk Franklin.

Following the achievement, Kelly took to Instagram to express gratitude to God, revealing how much the recognition meant to her after years of pursuing a career in music.

“I just know that i’m so incredibly grateful & will never forget this feeling. all glory to God,” she wrote.

The singer also expressed appreciation for Kirk Franklin, whom she credited for his contribution to the gospel project.

Beyond her musical achievements, Kelly has used her platform to encourage young people struggling with comparison, insecurity and the pressure to meet society’s expectations.

During an interview with The Christian Post in 2021, the singer explained that her relationship with God has helped her develop a stronger understanding of her identity.

“I’m loved by God,” she declared.

According to Kelly, reminding herself of what God says about her has helped her resist the pressure of allowing public opinion to determine her worth.

She acknowledged that maintaining such confidence can be difficult, particularly in an era when social media constantly exposes people to unrealistic comparisons.

Kelly explained that online platforms can create additional pressure because the images people compare themselves with do not always reflect reality.

The singer also identified Psalm 91:4 as a Bible verse that has provided comfort and encouragement throughout her life.

The passage speaks about finding refuge under God’s protection, a message Kelly said reminds her that she can find peace in God even when life becomes overwhelming.

Reflecting on the Scripture, she described the comfort of having a place of refuge where she can spend quiet time with God before returning to the demands of everyday life.

For Kelly, christian faith is not simply an influence on her music but an important part of her personal identity.

Her message encourages young people to recognise that their worth does not have to depend on popularity, online approval, physical appearance or public achievements.
