A Christian content creator identified as Uncle K has encouraged young people to appreciate the valuable skills, training and professional opportunities they receive through serving in church, explaining how his experience as a church photographer helped him secure employment after relocating to Canada.

Speaking about his personal experience, Uncle K recalled that one of the major challenges he encountered when he newly arrived in Canada was the requirement for Canadian work experience.

However, he explained that the practical skills he had developed while serving in his church’s media department became valuable when he applied for a job.

According to him, he had served as the lead photographer in his church and had also taken on communication responsibilities, which led him to describe himself as a communications manager.

When he attended his job interview, the photographs he presented as evidence of his experience were pictures he had taken during church services.

“What I submitted during my interview was photos I took during church service,” he recalled.
He further revealed that the first camera he used to begin his photography journey was purchased for him by his church.

Reflecting on the experience, Uncle K explained that many young Christians fail to recognise the professional value of the opportunities available to them through church service.

According to him, responsibilities that may appear ordinary within a church environment often provide practical experience that people outside the church pay significant amounts of money to acquire.

He cited leadership training as an example, explaining that programmes he participated in through Christian fellowship provided opportunities similar to training courses for which others pay as much as $1,000.

He also highlighted how church departments introduce young people to different professional fields.

According to him, some individuals gain their first experience in operations through church logistics teams, while others learn photography, videography, public speaking, content creation and music through their involvement in church activities.

For those serving in media departments, he noted that church equipment often provides access to expensive professional tools that beginners might otherwise struggle to afford.

He encouraged young people to recognise that the skills they develop while serving in church could eventually become valuable in their careers and personal development.

Expressing appreciation for the institutions that contributed to his growth, Uncle K acknowledged CFI and Restoration House Montreal for the opportunities and training he received.

His testimony highlights how volunteering and serving in church can provide practical experience, develop confidence and help young people discover abilities that may later become professionally valuable.
