Pastor Dolapo Lawal has warned against allowing pain from a previous relationship to reshape a person’s character and affect how they treat others in the future.
He gave the example of a woman who was once generous and kind but, after being hurt by an ex, decides she will never again do certain good things for a man.
According to Lawal, when past hurt begins dictating present behavior, the former partner still has influence.
“He is still living through you,” he said.
Lawal argued that healing is necessary so people do not carry old wounds into new relationships and punish someone new for what someone else did.
His message was simple: do not let the person who hurt you become the reason you stop being the healthy, loving person you were before.
