Pastor Dolapo Lawal has advised Christian singles against remaining in long-term relationships without a clear direction toward marriage.
He argued that physical attraction and emotional closeness can make sexual boundaries increasingly difficult to maintain over time, especially when a couple has no defined plan for the future.
Referencing 1 Corinthians 7, Lawal said Christians should not treat sexual desire itself as something evil, but should handle it within biblical boundaries.
“If you burn with passion, go and marry,” he said, paraphrasing the passage.
Lawal also shared the example of a young couple in his church who approached him about marriage because they did not want a prolonged relationship to lead them into sexual compromise.
According to him, once their parents were supportive and there were no major concerns, he encouraged them to proceed.
His central message was that Christian dating should be intentional, accountable and directed toward marriage rather than becoming an indefinite relationship that makes it harder to honour agreed sexual boundaries.
