Nigerian pastor and relationship coach Bolaji Idowu has advised married couples not to remain in situations that threaten their health or lives, stressing that personal safety should not be sacrificed in the name of preserving a marriage.
“If your marriage is threatening your health and life, pack your load and leave temporarily to fix it from outside,” the pastor was quoted as saying.
According to the cleric, couples should make efforts to build successful marriages, but they must also recognise when remaining in a troubled relationship could put their well-being at risk.
Pastor Bolaji Idowu further explained that marriage does not automatically guarantee happiness or companionship, noting that some married individuals still experience deep loneliness.
His message emphasises that while reconciliation and efforts to resolve marital challenges are important, couples should not ignore serious threats to their physical or emotional well-being.
The pastor’s advice also highlights the distinction between temporarily leaving an unsafe environment and necessarily ending a marriage.
