Benson Idahosa University Set To Partner Delaware State University

In furtherance of a partnership between Benson Idahosa University and Delaware State University, a 4-man team from Delaware State University (DSU), United State of America led by the President of the institution, Dr. Harry Lee Williams paid a courtesy visit to Benson Idahosa University, Edo, Nigeria. The visit was to strengthen its partnership talks on research, scholarships, seed technology, forage production, Live-stock breeding and curriculum development with the University management.

The Vice-Chancellor of Benson Idahosa University, Prof Ernest Izevbigie, who spoke during the collaboration talks, gave the developmental strides of the University reiterating the importance of staff and students exchange programs between the Universities.

He added that a good strategic partnership can improve an institution by offering students an opportunity to participate in significant experiences abroad, through more innovative programs such as internship and double degree programs.

“The partnerships also have the potential to make an impact on curriculum development, collaborative teaching programs and research networks” he stated

On his part, speaking with the management during the visit The President Delaware State University, Dr. Harry said the visit was to discuss possible areas of partnership that will be beneficial to the Universities.

According to him the partnership will provide room for international exposure of its students, as its students can be sent to Benson Idahosa University to gain some practical experiences.

“Working with universities is part of our strength, so we partner with high profiled institutions as we cannot attain success alone” he said

Dr Harry however mentioned that the partnership would enable Benson Idahosa University to key into the “American Culture Program”. A program he explained will allow Benson Idahosa University students to receive lectures for one semester at DSU at an affordable price.

‘’Furthermore we can partner in a way that our students can get two degrees, provide scholarship opportunities for post graduate studies as well as train our students on aquaculture programs and seed technology’’ he men

He noted that not only the students will benefit from this strategic partnership, as staff members of the university community can also participate in very enriching experiences in the their country.

The President of Benson Idahosa University, Bishop F.E.B. Idahosa, who led the Delaware State team on an inspection tour around the University, expressed satisfaction and confidence of the University Management that the partnership would play a great role in moving the University closer to its core purpose to change Nigeria.

He noted that partnership was part of the transformation agenda of the University to reposition Nigeria and make it a hub in Africa.

The Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Agricultural technologies, Benson Idahosa University, Prof. Williams Molindo, emphasized the significance of partnering with an institution like DSU that would provide a platform for joint hosting of conferences and Agricultural businesses amongst the partners.
Prof Molindo, who mentioned the strength of the faculty as man power, land, laboratories, boasted that Agriculture is a mainstay of the University.

“Poultry is another major area we can partner in as there has been a ban on importation of poultry birds into Nigeria’’ he said
