Pastor E.A. Adeboye has urged Christians not to give offerings reluctantly, saying giving to God should be done willingly and cheerfully.
Referencing Genesis 4:3–5 and the offerings presented by Cain and Abel, Adeboye noted that not every offering presented to God is necessarily acceptable.
“Whenever you feel unhappy when they are about to take an offering, please don’t give,” he said.
Adeboye added that if someone is not genuinely happy to give, they should not give simply because an offering is being collected.
“If you are not excited about the offering, if you are not really, really happy to give, don’t waste your money. At least you can spend it to eat,” he said.
He concluded by stressing that God is not dependent on human resources.
“God is not a beggar. Don’t forget that silver belongs to Him, gold belongs to Him. If He takes anything from you at all, it is an honour to you, a privilege.”
