Bishop David Oyedepo has spoken strongly against the killings, kidnappings and insecurity affecting communities across Nigeria, declaring that the country must not be allowed to descend further into violence.
Speaking during Living Faith Church’s 4th Pre-Shiloh Encounter Service, Oyedepo said:
“Nigeria will never become an Islamic state. Never, never, never.”
He condemned those carrying out violent attacks and also accused unnamed individuals of sponsoring or enabling armed groups. Those allegations were presented by Oyedepo during his sermon and were not accompanied by publicly identified suspects or evidence in the reports of his remarks.
“The Church of Christ in Nigeria is indestructible,” he said, while calling on believers to pray for the country.
Oyedepo also announced seven days of intensive prayer, declaring that those responsible for bloodshed and those supporting them should face divine judgment.
His message came amid renewed concern over attacks, kidnappings and insecurity affecting Nigerians in different parts of the country.
While Oyedepo framed his message strongly around threats facing the Church, Nigeria’s wider security crisis has also affected communities of different faiths.
His call was ultimately for an end to the bloodshed and for peace and freedom to prevail in Nigeria.
