Actor Jonathan Roumie has completed his final day of filming as Jesus in the hit Christian series The Chosen, marking the end of a role he has portrayed for several years.
“My friends, the hour has finally come,” Roumie wrote while sharing an emotional farewell with viewers.
Roumie’s final scene was filmed as production continued on the seventh and final season of the series. Other members of the cast and crew were still completing their remaining scenes.
Season Seven will focus on the resurrection of Jesus and the events that followed, bringing the main Gospel storyline of The Chosen to its conclusion.
For Roumie, portraying Jesus was never simply another acting role. He has frequently spoken about the responsibility he felt playing Christ and how the experience affected his personal faith.
His portrayal has helped introduce the Gospel story to audiences across different countries, cultures and Christian traditions. Many viewers have also credited the series with encouraging them to read the Bible and learn more about Jesus.
Actors eventually film their final scenes, and television series eventually end. But the message at the centre of The Chosen remains:
