Apostle Johnson Suleman has warned ministers and believers against greed, financial dishonesty and the kind of Christian profession that is not backed by character.
“You want to make money, leave ministry, go and do business,” he said.
Suleman argued that people in ministry should not treat church work as a shortcut to personal wealth. He also urged believers to learn how to handle money and property that do not belong to them.
“There are monies you will see, let them pass. It’s not yours,” he said.
Referencing the biblical principle about faithfulness with what belongs to another person, Suleman said integrity with other people’s resources can reveal whether someone is ready to be trusted with more.
He also shared an example of someone who had been given millions of naira to keep but later spent the money, reportedly because of a child’s medical needs.
Suleman said compassion should not erase accountability and argued that repeatedly shielding people from consequences can encourage further indiscipline.
“When people are not made to face consequences, their indiscipline continues,” he said.
He then broadened the message beyond money, challenging believers who pray, speak in tongues or serve in church while still practicing dishonesty, malice or other harmful behavior.
“This is not the Jesus that the Bible talks about,” he said. “The Jesus the Bible talks about does not cheat people. The Jesus the Bible talks about does not take advantage of people.”
His central message was that Christianity should be visible not only in spiritual gifts or church activity, but in honesty, discipline, relationships and how a person treats what belongs to others.
